I think it´s a great idea to rent a furnished apartment for a holiday. I have done it with my family in many countries and always we have been happy and saved a lot of money. This is also a way to have a possibility to live like local people and get more out of the holiday. We have always used companies, that rent apartments, because I think it is the safest.

Good call on these tips! I’m passing them all to my grandmother! Plus to the commenters: my grandma has had the SVC (senior Value cellphone) for almost a year now, she got it as an impulsive purchase at kmart, her first cellphone, and she loves it. She only spends about 15 dollars a month and she carries it around all the time.

Amazing saving money tips for seniors, I have to also agree with Chris Masters here, the Tracfone SVC helped me lower my phone bill expenses because I only have to pay for what I use in this service. I spend on average $10 to $12 a month and I adore my phone the numbers are pretty big and easy to see, and also it’s a cell phone.

Cutting costs can be a lot easier than you think if you look at it holistically. What can you do without? What can you reduce?

How about your home phone? Can you get rid of your land line? If so, can you get a less expensive cell phone?

There are several prepaid services that might suit your needs. On the low end is Tracfone’s SVC which has phones for around $20 and service for as low as $20 for 3 months. Nothing fancy; talk, text and rudimentary web (email).

You can certainly opt for something fancier and more expensive but who will know the difference?
