If you have come to this website to find all about money, then this is the page for you. If you were looking for a particular book on money, then the tab at the top right for Personal Finance Books is a better place to start. Otherwise read on.
There are many definitions of money on the Web and here are three provided by Princeton University WordNet Search, as displayed by Google.
- the most common medium of exchange; functions as legal tender; “we tried to collect the money he owed us”
- wealth reckoned in terms of money; “all his money is in real estate”
- the official currency issued by a government or national bank; “he changed his money into francs”
For a more graphic image, that provided by Google shows that money is not only the piles of paper bills, but brings with it a feeling of euphoria among those who possess it.
Surprisingly Google does not have a website specifically focusing on money but there are three others that are well worth following:
There are several musical tributes to money. One of the most viewed is that done by Pink Floyd on Money.
For sheer verve and excitement it is tough to beat the video on “Money” by Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey as they performed it in Cabaret.
My own choice favors the repetition offered by ABBA with Money Money Money.
Money of course is a medium of instant exchange. Online transactions avoid the need for any physical token of value and thus are even more instant. Despite this advantage, paper tokens like cheques or money orders still persist and have their place. However they are usually subject to time delays. With online payday loans, there is no need to leave the house or take time out of your day to visit a payday loan store.
If you have a better way of typifying what money is all about, then please let us know and we will see how best to add that.
You will find additional sources of information on money on our Money Resources web page.
