Senior Money?
What’s In A Name?
As I emphasize over and over again, getting the right name for an online activity is the most important issue you must face. The right choice of name can instantly signal to a visitor that they have come to a desirable place. This is particularly important on the Internet when there are often an infinity of alternatives that are there to choose.
This series of posts and articles deal with money particularly as seniors might consider that topic. Since seniors now seem to be identified as anyone over 50 years of age, this is a large slice of the population and many are vying for their attention.
Of course getting onto the radar screen means being visible to Google. If a senior is trying to find a relevant article on some money topic, they are very likely to Google some appropriate keywords. Perhaps a certain more savvy section may even try to find relevant blog posts with Google BlogSearch. An important task therefore is to check possible name candidates with both versions of Google search to see what competition there may be.
Googling Senior Money Phrases
Quite a number of phrases including the two words Senior Money were checked out with the two-step approach.
- Would they appeal to a human visitor?
- What competition did Google reveal for any given phrase?
In terms of appeal to a human visitor, phrases with a dual meaning seemed likely to be very effective. For that reason, one phrase seemed worth checking out:
Senior Money Talks
Unfortunately this is used by others and in addition an associated domain name seniormoneytalk.com is already taken. The possibility of confusion with others ruled out this choice. Back to the drawing board.
Senior Money Matters
This had a pleasing ring to it and the associated dot-com domain was available. In this case the phrase is a US trademark. It is probably unlikely that this would block the use of the phrase for a Canadian online property, but again it is wise to avoid confusion.
After searching around, the name which seems to best describe this blog’s content while avoiding confusion is what you see at the top of the page – Senior Money Memos. There was a slight diversion around the alternative, Senior Money Memorandums, but since the pedants might insist on the more traditional (Latin) Senior Money Memoranda, that line of thinking was abandoned.
Senior Money Memos will bring to you articles and discussions on any issues relating to Money that may be of particular interest to seniors. We welcome reactions and suggestions from our readers so that we can cover topics which may be of concern.
